Counselor of the Year Nominations Now Being Accepted

November 9, 2009

The Wyoming Admissions Officers (WAO) is accepting nominations for this year's Counselor of the Year award, which recognizes outstanding high school counselors.

"With all of the post-high school educational choices and career options, it is with tireless effort that Wyoming guidance counselors step in as a liaison for transitioning students," says Adrienne Loveland, University of Wyoming assistant director of admissions and WAO co-chair. "They actively serve as mentors, friends, coaches and sometimes parents. We hope to recognize the many hats counselors wear on a daily basis and honor those who are making a difference in student's lives."

The nomination form is available online at www.uwyo.edu/admissions/coy. Forms should be submitted, along with two letters of recommendation, by Monday, Nov. 30. The Counselor of the Year will be announced in February.

"We ask that one letter be from a student, if at all possible," says Loveland.

The WAO, a volunteer organization comprised of admissions representatives from the UW and Wyoming community colleges, coordinates Wyoming Planning Days and other programs designed to introduce high school students to postsecondary education options.
