Paul Dellenback is the new head of the University of Wyoming Department of Mechanical Engineering.

A graduate of Texas Tech University, Dellenback received his B.S. degree in engineering physics in 1978, and his M.S. in mechanical engineering in 1980. He joined the UW faculty in 1990, after completing his Ph.D. at Arizona State University and teaching at Southern Methodist University for three years.

An expert in thermal and fluid sciences, Dellenback has taught courses such as thermodynamics, fluid mechanics, heat transfer and gas turbine engines, as well as graduate courses in fluid mechanics and heat transfer.

"Professor Dellenback has shown steady commitment to the department's prudent growth and advancement," says Rob Ettema, dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Science. "Among his efforts, he has taken on a leading part in developing the new baccalaureate degree in Energy Systems Engineering, which is based in his department."

Dellenback has served as undergraduate program coordinator for mechanical engineering for two years, and as acting department head during Professor Demitris Kouris' two-year appointment at the National Science Foundation. He now directs the thesis research of two master's students.

His most recent achievements include the Tau Beta Pi Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award in 2008 and UW Mortar Board Outstanding Academic Adviser Award in 2005. He was honored five times as a UW Mortar Board "Top Prof" recognizing UW's outstanding teachers.
