Willena Stanford Diversity Award Nominations Accepted at UW

November 18, 2009

Nominations are now being accepted for the diversity award honoring Willena Stanford, a longtime University of Wyoming African American and Diaspora Studies instructor. The nomination deadline for the Willena Stanford Commitment to Diversity Award is Friday, Dec. 4.

The award, created by the UW Martin Luther King Jr. March and Days of Dialogue steering committee, recognizes a student who has made significant contributions to increase awareness of diversity and the richness it brings to the UW community. Stanford, a former committee member, had a strong commitment to the education of all students and made significant contributions to diversity at UW.

The award is available to any UW student enrolled for the 2010 spring semester, including undergraduate and graduate students, on-campus and outreach students and those with full-time or part-time status.

Nominations will be accepted from UW students, faculty, staff and administrators. They should be in letter format and sent to John Nutter, Student Affairs, 408 Old Main, Department 3066, 1000 E. University Avenue, Laramie, 82071, or e-mailed to nutter@uwyo.edu. Anonymous nominations will be accepted.

A committee comprising representatives of the steering committee and the Multicultural Affairs sector of the Dean of Students office will make the selection. The winner will be announced and all nominees will be recognized at the Martin Luther King Jr. March and Community Supper Monday, Jan. 18. The winner will receive a $500 credit at the UW Bookstore. The MLK/DOD steering committee funds the award.
