Campus Construction Update for the Week of June 20

These are among the construction activities scheduled June 20-26 at the University of Wyoming:

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

Summit View Apartment Deconstruction (South of Willett Drive between Crane and Soule streets to Coe Street) -- Deconstruction is ongoing. Rough site grading has begun. The last building along Soule is being deconstructed. Materials are being separated for recycle/re-use where possible. The entire three blocks are fenced off so pedestrian and vehicle traffic will need to go around that area.

Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center (Scheduled completion: Fall 2010) -- Lewis Street remains closed from 9th to 11th streets for the contractor's staging area. The first floor activities will be MEP (mechanical/electrical/plumbing) rough-in, drywall and drywall tape and A/V (audio/visual) rough in. The second floor activities will be more MEP rough-in, more in-wall blocking, A/V rough-in, and drywall top-out at selected walls. The third floor activities will be more framing, MEP rough-in, in-wall blocking, and drywall top-out at selected walls. The roof membrane and coping cap installation continues.

At the exterior the brick will be installed on the south and east elevations. Masonry washing and scaffolding tear-down will occur all around. The water lines will be installed in the alley and the roadway between the Berry Center and the Bureau of Mines Building will close for a few days. Exact days are yet to be determined.

Education Annex (Scheduled Completion: Fall 2010) -- Art design and related finish upgrades continues on the second and third floors and stairs. HVAC and electrical work continues this week. There will be no access to second or third floors starting Monday. Access to the elevator for the ADA route to first floor will remain.

College of Business Expansion and Renovation (Classes will begin in the fall) -- The parking lot will be closed the week of July 5 for sealing and stripping. Exterior landscaping and furniture installation continues.

War Memorial Stadium Expansion and Improvements (Scheduled completion: Fall 2010) -- The East Stadium parking lot will be closed until August. Upgrades to the east side restrooms continue. Upper east front edge slabs will be placed this week for ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) seating extension. Tile and carpet work is starting for the suites. Elevator installation is ongoing. Evening and weekend work is scheduled through the summer.

Kendall House (Southeast corner of 8th and Fremont Streets, is the new home of the Ruckelshaus Institute and Helga Otto Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources) --The departments moved into the building on Monday. Landscaping is continuing with equipment and truck traffic in the area. The sidewalk at the corner of 8th & Fremont will be closed the next two weeks for sidewalk and street repairs so use caution when walking in this area. Design for the basement finish is nearly complete and construction will start in July.

Biological Safety Lab, Level Three (BSL3) additions to the State Veterinary Laboratory -- The contractor continues to finalize the addition. The design team is doing its substantial completion inspection. Commissioning of the mechanical systems is on-going, and site work is in progress.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week:

Biological Sciences -- The heat will be shut off in this building from June 24 to about July 19 to replace parts and repair the heating system. Steam will still be available to the research laboratories. Temperature issues should be reported to the Physical Plant Service Desk.

College of Education -- Construction is nearing completion at the building's main entrance on the south side. This entrance will re-open to traffic on June 18.

Wyoming Hall -- Work at the south entrance is complete. Normal access will return Monday.

Bureau of Mines Building -- The north entrance has been reopened for traffic. There is still some minor work remaining. Please use caution when work is in progress.

Knight Hall -- The west entry on the north side of the building will be closed for about two more weeks. Other entrances will remain open for building access.

Student Union -- An overflow drain will be installed on the roof over the Bookstore. No access issues are anticipated.

College of Agriculture -- Roof replacement on the original Ag building is in progress. The staging area is on the west side of the facility facing Prexy's Pasture.

Indoor Practice Facility -- A roof access door and fan louver covers are being installed on the clear story roof the middle part of next week. No access issues are anticipated.

Willett Drive/Fraternity Row -- Work continues on the backfilling and clean up the parkway area. Please use caution in this area.

Sorority Row -- The water line replacement to the Kappa Kappa Gamma house is complete.

Day Lot -- Well repairs are ongoing at the east end of the Day Lot. There will be a drilling rig and several trucks; please use caution around the work area.
