Campus Construction Update for the Week of June 6

These are among the construction activities scheduled June 6-12 at the University of Wyoming:

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities scheduled for the week:

Summit View Apartment Deconstruction (South of Willett Drive between Crane and Soule streets to Coe Street) -- Deconstruction of buildings continues and rough site grading has begun. The last buildings along Soule Street will be deconstructed no-parking signs are set up along the west side of Soule with intermediate sidewalk closures. Materials are being separated for recycle/re-use where possible. The entire three blocks are fenced off so pedestrian and vehicle traffic will need to go around that area.

Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center (Scheduled completion: Fall 2010) -- Lewis Street remains closed from 9th to 11th streets for the contractor's staging area. Concrete will be poured in the tread pads of Stair #1. Interior drywall continues at the first and second floors. Exterior insulation will be sprayed on in various locations. Masonry work continues on the east and west elevations. The high part of the roof is being installed. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing rough-ins go in overhead and in walls. Some backfilling of dirt is being done on the south side.

Education Annex (Scheduled Completion: Fall 2010) -- Art design and related finish upgrades are being installed on the second and third floors and stairs. Concrete grinding has been completed and framing will begin next week. Rooms on the second and third floors will remain off-line and the east stairs will be closed for painting. Access to the first floor and elevator, via the second floor ADA (American with Disabilities Act) entrance, will remain.

College of Business Expansion and Renovation (Classes will begin in the fall) -- Faculty and staff move-in and furniture installation continues at the facility. Punch list items are being addressed by the contractor. Audio-visual installation continues within the building. Landscaping work continues at the exterior.

War Memorial Stadium Expansion and Improvements (Scheduled completion: Fall 2010) -- The East Stadium parking lot will be closed until August. Construction of the east side restrooms continues. West window and metal panel installation is ongoing. Evening and weekend work will continue through summer.

Kendall House (Southeast corner of 8th and Fremont Streets, will become the Helga Otto Haub School of Environment and Natural Resources) -- Landscaping is continuing with heavy truck traffic in the area so use caution when walking down the sidewalks. Finish work is continuing both inside and outside. Contractor punch list items (final items to complete on list after walk-through of a project) will continue for a few weeks.

Biological Safety Lab, Level Three (BSL3) additions to the State Veterinary Laboratory -- Substantial completion inspection is ongoing on the north half of the addition. Site work continues on the exterior. The parking lot will be paved Wednesday and Thursday.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week:

College of Education -- The ADA accessible door at the building's main entrance on the south side will be closed for three weeks beginning Monday, June 7. The ADA accessible entrance will be on the north side of the building. Signage will direct pedestrian traffic. Please use caution around the work area.

Wyoming Hall -- The south entrance remains closed for door replacement. A temporary ramp and handrail have been constructed at the east entry for handicap access. Signs are posted. Work should be complete in one or two weeks pending material deliveries.

Bureau of Mines Building -- The north entrance will be open on Monday, June 7. The remaining work at that entrance will be scheduled once the materials arrive.

Knight Hall -- The west entry on the north side of the building will be closed for about three weeks beginning Wednesday, June 9. Other entrances will remain open for building access.

College of Agriculture -- Roof replacement will occur on the original Ag building. The staging area will be at either end on the south side of the building.

Service Building -- Roof replacement is complete.

Indoor Practice Facility -- A roof access door and fan louver covers are being installed on the clear story roof as weather permits. No access issues are anticipated.

Coe Library -- Roof replacement continues on the mechanical room above the sixth floor. Staging is on the south side next to the mail room.

College of Education -- A domestic water shutdown is scheduled for Monday June 7, from 7:30 a.m.-2 p.m. Building occupants have been notified.

Willett Drive/Fraternity Row -- The parkway on the south side of Willett across from the Centrex Building has been backfilled. Work will continue on the steam condensate line through mid-June. Please use caution in this area.

Sorority Row -- A water line replacement to the Kappa Kappa Gamma house will begin Saturday, June 5. King Street will be closed to vehicle traffic on Saturday. One half of the street will be open from Sunday through Tuesday as patching and resurfacing occurs. Please use caution or avoid driving in this area until the work is complete.

Day Lot -- Well repairs will occur next week at the east end of the Day Lot. There will be a drilling rig and several trucks; please use caution around the work area.

Campus -- The campus irrigation system has been activated for the summer season. Please notify the Physical Plant service desk of any line breaks or malfunctioning sprinkler heads.
