A retirement reception for Accounting Manager Linda Nydahl is scheduled for Tuesday,
June 29, from 2-4 p.m. at the UW Alumni House.
When Linda Nydahl started working at the University of Wyoming when she was a student in 1977, she had no idea how fast the decades would slip by. A retirement reception for her is scheduled for Tuesday, June 29, from 2-4 p.m. at the UW Alumni House.
After receiving her second bachelor's degree in accounting, she worked three years for a private accounting firm in Denver before returning to UW to work in the Payroll Office. Her husband, John, was a professor in the UW Department of Mechanical Engineering.
Having served as accounting manager since 1985, Nydahl has led massive changes in accounting procedures, reporting and systems over the years. When she started, the university was not GAAP (generally accepted accounting principles) compliant, and UW was not audited by CPA firms. There were no personal computers in the office, and Section II payments were hand-typed.
"What an exciting time it was working together to bring the systems, procedures and people into the 20th and now 21st century," Nydahl says.
Nydahl recalls how the years have been filled with wonderful colleagues and fun, exciting, ever-changing work. She says she will miss all of the "bright, dedicated staff" with whom she has had the privilege to work over the years.
"I will miss them all," she smiles. "The university has been a great employer and I fully appreciate the opportunities that I have been given. I will still be found in the crowd cheering on the Cowgirl and Cowboy basketball teams!"
