The University of Wyoming filed a minor source air permit application on Wednesday (today) with the Wyoming Department of Environmental Quality for the High Plains Gasification Advanced Technology Center.
UW is seeking a synthetic minor source air permit for the gasification facility. The anticipated emissions will remain below the major source thresholds set out in state air quality permitting regulations. The application describes potential emissions for the project.
UW contracted with Trihydro Corporation in Laramie to complete the permit application.
"This is an important step for us, and it's the result of months of work," Robert Ballard, HPG-ATC project director, says.
The HPG-ATC will consist of a small-scale gasification system that is expected to allow UW and other researchers to develop and validate advanced coal gasification technology solutions for Powder River Basin and other Wyoming coals. The plant is expected to allow engineers to gain experience in advanced coal gasification processes. It also will provide students an opportunity to learn about coal gasification.
The facility will be located in the Cheyenne Business Parkway in Laramie County.
