UW Now Accepting Energy Summer Institute Applications

January 26, 2011

Applications are now being accepted for the 2011 Energy Summer Institute June 12-18, sponsored by the University of Wyoming School of Energy Resources (SER).

The Energy Summer Institute is a one-week summer residential program for students currently enrolled in ninth or 10th grade.  Applications are due by Wednesday, March 30.

The goal is to inspire the imagination of high school students about the challenging energy problems facing the world. The Science Posse will teach the classes.

The Science Posse, a group of UW graduate students whose primary goal is to raise awareness and understanding of science, reaches schoolchildren across the state. The group has worked with some 70 teachers and 2,500 students in 12 Wyoming counties since its creation in 2006.

In addition to attending classes, students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of recreational, cultural and social events. Room and board costs are covered by the SER.

"The program offers the youths of Wyoming a terrific opportunity for exposure to higher education and all that the University of Wyoming has to offer," says Mark Northam, SER director.
