UW Trustees Approve Pre

January 21, 2011

The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees today (Friday) approved a pre-development agreement with American Campus Communities (ACC) for a proposed student housing project on the site that is now vacant after the demolition of the Summit View Apartments.

The agreement defines the responsibilities and obligations of UW and ACC with regard to pre-development activities and costs associated with the project.  If pre-development efforts lead to a viable proposal, trustees will have the opportunity to review and approve the project and its financial structure at their March or May meeting.

If the project is eventually approved, UW plans to have the new apartments available for occupancy for the fall 2012 semester, says Doug Vinzant, the university's vice president for administration.

The Summit View Apartments, which were located north of Grand Avenue on 30th Street near War Memorial Stadium, were demolished last fall. Vinzant says the new housing project would accommodate 328 students, about the same number as had lived in the old apartments.

The development of the east side of campus is part of UW's Long Range Development Plan (LRDP). For more on the LRDP, go to the website at http://uwadmnweb.uwyo.edu/facilitiesplanning/lrdp/.
