UW to Host Energy Institute for Statewide Teachers

May 17, 2011

The University of Wyoming School of Energy Resources and the Wyoming Geographic Alliance (WGA) will host a five-day workshop on geographic literacy and energy education for statewide teachers.

The Energy Institute, June 26-July 1 in Laramie, will include discussions relating energy to Wyoming's social studies standards, field trips to energy projects and lesson development. Deadline for registration is Wednesday, May 25. There is no registration fee, but a $100 deposit, refundable upon completion of the institute, is required.

Participating school districts are asked to form teams of 2-3 teachers. Each team must include a fourth-grade teacher and one middle school or high school teacher. Other configurations, however, will be considered.

Each team will receive a 144x144 Wyoming state floor map, valued at $1,000, for use in a classroom, and each teacher will receive a $325 stipend. Housing and meal cards will be provided in the UW residence halls from June 26-30.

For more information, email WGA Coordinator Judy Kallal at wga@bresnan.net or Nadia Kaliszewski, WGA graduate assistant, at wga@uwyo.edu.
