Diane Gerhart, Department of Geology and Geophysics senior office associate, is the University of Wyoming's Outstanding Staff Employee of the Second Quarter.

Last year, the department lost its accountants, front office staff, and senior administrative assistant. Gerhart took on the tasks of those positions until they could be filled and while keeping up on doing her own job.

"She has run the entire department almost single-handedly, putting in long days, weekends and holidays to keep our students and faculty paid, grants balanced, and the department business accomplished," wrote a nominator. Another adds, "She does top-notch work and has improved the department as a whole."

Gerhart says working with fellow staff members, faculty and students is what she likes most about her job.

"This has been a challenging year and a half for our department, to say the least, but it has been the incredible amount of support and patience generated from our faculty, students and staff that has kept us afloat and me sane," says Gerhart.

The Outstanding Staff Employee of the Quarter award recognizes UW staff members for their efforts toward excellence in the workplace.

Nominees can be any UW staff employee and must receive three nomination forms from three separate individuals. Nominations must be submitted to the Staff Senate office. The forms are on the web at www.uwyo.edu/StaffSenate/EOQ.asp.
