Visiting Dignitaries Policy and Protocol Guidance Is Available

September 19, 2011

With next week's speech by Gordon Gray, the United States ambassador to Tunisia, the International Programs Office is offering policy and protocol guidance to all University of Wyoming departments and units planning to invite high-level dignitaries to UW.

In recent years, UW has hosted Zhou Wenzhong, China's ambassador to the United States, and John Bruton, the European Union's ambassador to the United States, among others. Next month, former Soviet Union President Mikhail Gorbachev will speak on campus.

The policy ensures that the proposed visit of any high-profile individual who may generate substantial media attention and a large audience is well planned and executed, and that where appropriate, diplomatic and security protocols are observed.

The policy and checklist can be found on the Governmental and Community Relations page here.
