UW Health Fair is Saturday

October 27, 2011

A variety of services will be offered during the annual University of Wyoming College of Health Sciences Health Fair from 7-11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 29, on the second floor of the Wyoming Union.

Services offered will include full blood work, immunizations, blood glucose, lipid panel and diabetic foot testing, "brown bag" medication and asthma counseling, osteoporosis screening and medication disposal. Services are free of charge except for full blood work and immunizations.

"Fall into Good Health" gives UW and Laramie community members an opportunity to learn about their personal health, talk with current practitioners and learn how to improve their overall well-being.

Additionally, the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) student chapter will coordinate a medication disposal event.  Anyone with unwanted/used medications seeking proper disposal of those medications is welcome to bring them to the event. Pills, tablets, capsules, ointments, creams, lotions, powders, inhalers and liquids are all accepted.

The fair provides a unique opportunity for students across campus to collaborate and work together to provide services that promote health awareness and wellness.

The UW chapter of Phi Lambda Sigma, the pharmacy leadership society, sponsors the event. Each year, the Health Fair has provided more than 100 future health professionals with the opportunity to use the knowledge and skills obtained during their UW studies. The Health Fair centers on preventative measures and education to allow participants to seek further information as they see fit.
