UW Hockey Club Splits Two Games

The University of Wyoming hockey club split a pair of home games last weekend against Metro State College.

Tyler Roberts (Douglas) and Mitch Nelson (Sheridan) scored two goals apiece to lead the Cowboys to a 5-3 triumph over the Roadrunners in Saturday's series finale. It was the club's first win following three losses to open the 2011-12 American Collegiate Hockey Association season.

Noah Crank (Cheyenne) also scored for UW and Jordan Grove (Pinedale) turned aside 31 shots between the pipes to claim his first collegiate victory.

Jake Bates (Jackson) and Sam Dielwart (Calgary, Alberta) added assists for the Cowboys.

In Friday's opener at the Laramie Community Ice and Event Center, Metro State scored goals on four of its first five shots en route to a 7-5 win. Taylor Freemen (Parker, Colo.) netted two goals to lead UW. Dielwart, Nelson and Craig Luplow (Banner) also had goals in a losing cause.

Bates, Ethan Crockett (Cheyenne), Dustin Galbreath (Highlands Ranch, Colo.), Jake Marcus (Douglas), T.J. Peters (Jackson) and Levi Wood (Cheyenne) recorded assists for the Cowboys.

This week, UW hosts Dordt College at 9 p.m. Thursday before traveling to Boulder, Colo., for a Saturday matchup against the University of Colorado.
