Campus Construction Update for Week of Nov. 13

These are among the construction activities scheduled Nov. 13-19 at the University of Wyoming:

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities for the week:

Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center Landscaping /Bureau of Mines Alley Improvements (Scheduled completion Nov. 30) -- The installation of the traffic gate arms is complete with the arms secured in an open position until programming and staff coordination and training is complete. Intercom system will be installed upon arrival.

Wyoming Union Restroom Renovation (Scheduled completion mid-December) -- Flooring and wall finishes will begin this week. Demolition work is complete on first and second floors. Contractor vehicles and equipment will be parked around the perimeter of the south wing. Proceed with caution around these areas. New walls for the first and second floor restrooms are in place and mechanical/electrical rough-in is under way. New ceiling installation is complete. The storage closet is complete except for door installation.

A&S Auditorium (Scheduled completion March 2012) -- The project focuses on adding wheelchair access from the seating area to the stage. Demolition will begin this week. The auditorium will be available for fall commencement ceremonies and scheduled events. 

Ivinson Building Deconstruction (Scheduled completion late fall) -- Deconstruction is nearly complete. The fencing around the Ivinson Building, which encompasses 33 total parking spaces to the south, will be changed the end of next week with 17 pre-existing parking spaces opening back up to parking.

Student Apartments Bison Run Village (Scheduled completion August, 2012) -- The contractor has set up fencing around the three-block area south of Willett between Crane and Soule. Site utilities are nearly complete. Apartment building concrete footings and foundations are complete. Apartment framing continues. There will be a total of 15 apartment buildings (332 beds) with a community center and maintenance building.

ESCo Project (Energy Services Company) -- Long Energy Services Company will not be on campus this week.

Visual Arts Center (22nd St. and Willett Drive near the Centennial Complex, scheduled completion late fall) -- Work to replace sidewalk curb cut on 22nd Street will be completed. Final site grading, irrigation, planting and site concrete are progressing. Watch for minor work outside the contained construction area. Site fence will be removed before the end of the month. Materials and equipment will continue to arrive on site for continuing site and interior construction. Finishing of interior spaces, painting, ceilings and floors is ongoing. Installation and testing of mechanical/electrical systems is ongoing on throughout as steam and permanent power are in place. Installation of solar collector system is nearing completion. Be aware that there will be construction traffic throughout the construction period. Foot and vehicular traffic will not be permitted across the site.

Energy Resources Center (1020 Lewis St., scheduled completion Sept., 2012) -- Fencing configuration will change to improve construction access and improve safety. Access to main campus will be between Earth Sciences and the Berry Center. Lewis Street will remain closed during construction. Parking will be limited in areas around construction including the drive along the west side of Engineering. The access from main campus along the west side of Engineering to Lewis Street will be closed along the construction area for completion of foundations and utilities. The west end of the ramp behind Engineering will be closed. Handicapped parking has been relocated to the corner of Lewis and 10th streets with access through the Berry Center to main campus. Placement of concrete foundation walls is nearing completion. Minor concrete work will continue throughout the week. There will be work on underground utilities throughout the site as foundation work allows. Backfill at foundations will continue as foundation work allows. Erector's crane is on site and steel erection will be underway. There will be construction traffic for delivery of materials and structural steel throughout the week. Expect congestion from delivery of steel. Take care when walking around trucks waiting in the street.

State Fiscal Stabilization Fund Modernization, Renovation and Repairs (Scheduled completion this fall) -- The project focuses on major maintenance items, ADA (Americans with Disabilities Act) improvements and classroom improvements. Punch list work is scheduled at Animal Science, Arts & Sciences, Hoyt Hall, Engineering Building, Pharmacy Building and Physical Sciences Building.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week:

Notice: Snow and ice removal will occur as needed throughout the winter. Please use caution around snow removal equipment and be safe walking, riding and driving on the snow. There is no parking from 2-6 a.m. in the tow away zone on the south side of Lewis to allow for snow and ice removal. Report ice spots to the Physical Plant service desk.

South Shuttle Lot (15th and Spring Creek) -- Phase two of the construction on the north part of the lot is nearing completion. Paving is complete and striping will occur this weekend.  The new bus shelter will be installed this week. Work areas will be barricaded. The bus pickup and drop off area is by the temporary bus shelter.

East Shuttle Lot (30th and Willett) -- Bus shelter relocations continue. Please use caution around work areas.

Engineering Building -- Electrical work in the basement of the petroleum wing will cause intermittent noise from drills and other construction activities.

Fine Arts -- The parking lot north of the Fine Arts building remains partially blocked for pump replacement. Work is on hold pending material arrival.

Knight Hall -- KUWR hallways will be painted this week. Please use caution in these areas.

Wyoming Hall -- Painting of the bathrooms continues throughout the building. Signs will be posted as to which one is closed at the time.

Animal Science -- Painting in the east hallways continues. Please use caution around work areas.

Centrex Building -- Equipment placement and roof work continues. Signs will be posted on Willett and the sidewalk will be closed as needed during the project. Pedestrian traffic will be routed to the south side of the road to avoid equipment. 

Bureau of Mines Building -- Ceiling replacement is complete.

Campus -- Removal of UW Pride flags is complete.

Biological Sciences Building -- Floor tile replacement is on hold due to material delays.

Engineering Building -- Mural installation is on hold pending material arrival.
