Colorado Chamber Orchestra Musicians Play Music by UW Composers

November 16, 2011

Members of the Colorado Chamber Orchestra will perform works by UW composers Friday, Nov. 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Fine Arts concert hall. The free concert will feature music for small chamber ensembles.

The Colorado Chamber Orchestra, a Denver-based group comprised of outstanding musicians in the metro area, is recognized for giving strong performances throughout the region.

UW composers are Justin Smith, Heidi Deisch, Jessica Pacheco, Daniel Galbreath, Hanif Nik and Antonio Moreira.

"These student composers have extensive experience writing for high-level musicians, and will present some of their finest works in this concert," says Anne Guzzo, associate professor in the UW Department of Music.

Their works are for various combinations of string instruments, winds, and percussion, including a Persian-inspired work for clarinet and chamber ensemble; a trio for flute, clarinet, and timpani; and a romantic sextet that references film music and sambas of the early 20th century.

This concert is sponsored by the Douglas B. Reeves Endowment for music composition. For more information, email Guzzo at guzzo@uwyo.edu.
