The University of Wyoming hockey club dropped a pair of games last weekend against the Cheyenne Stampede of the Western States Hockey League (WSHL).
The Cowboys fell 4-1 Friday in the opener of the home-and-home series, then lost 5-2 Saturday at the Cheyenne Ice and Events Center.
Taylor Freeman (Parker, Colo.), Dan Lang (Casper) and Ben Squires (Centennial, Colo.) netted goals for UW. Jake Bates (Jackson), Mitch Nelson (Sheridan) and Tyler Roberts (Douglas) had assists.
The Stampede is playing its first season in the WSHL, a 16-team Junior A hockey league. Nationally, Junior A hockey features up-and-coming players, including future collegiate and professional players ages 16-20.
Following winter break, UW (3-11) plays two home games against Colorado University-Denver. Faceoffs are scheduled for 8:30 p.m. Jan 13-14, at the Laramie Community Ice and Event Center.
