January 13, 2012

These are among the construction activities scheduled Jan. 15-21 at the University of Wyoming:

Traffic Alert -- The UW Police Department reminds everyone that the speed limit around the perimeter of campus is 20 mph.

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities for the week:

Visual Arts Building (22nd St. and Willett Drive near the Centennial Complex) -- Spring semester classes began on Jan. 9th. Be aware that there will be traffic and activities throughout the site as final furniture is received, remaining items are moved over and touch up of interior spaces and site by contractor are being completed. The contractor's office and a small crew will remain on site through the next several weeks.

Energy Resources Center (1020 Lewis St., scheduled completion September, 2012) -- Access to main campus will be between or through Earth Sciences and the Berry Center. Lewis Street will remain closed during construction. Parking will be limited in areas around construction including the drive along the west side of Engineering. The access from main campus along the west side of Engineering to Lewis Street will be closed during this phase of construction. The west end of the ramp behind Engineering will be closed. Handicapped parking has been relocated to the northwest corner of Lewis and 10th streets with access through the Berry Center or Earth Sciences to main campus. Minor concrete work at foundations on the west and floor slab pours will continue throughout the week. There will be work on underground utilities throughout the site as foundation and steel erection allow. Backfill at foundations will continue as foundation work allows. The erector's large crane has been removed and will be replaced by a small mobile crane. There will be construction traffic for delivery of materials throughout the week. Expect congestion from deliveries. Framing of interior walls will continue. Take extreme care when walking around trucks waiting in the street.

Ivinson Parking Lot Expansion -- Due to frozen ground the backfill of the old Ivinson Building will begin in the spring along with the parking lot expansion work.  Fifteen pre-existing parking spaces are now open with access off 11th Street.

Student Apartments Bison Run Village (Scheduled completion August, 2012) -- The new apartments are in a three-block area south of Willett Drive between Crane and Soule streets. Apartment building concrete footings and foundations are complete. Apartment framing, electrical/plumbing rough-ins and insulation continue.  Drywall installation has begun. The community center is 90 percent complete with a February completion date. There will be a total of 15 apartment buildings (332 beds) with a community center and maintenance building.

A&S Auditorium (Scheduled completion, this March) -- The project focuses on adding wheelchair access from the seating area to the stage. Concrete and electrical work are scheduled this week. Handrails are complete. The auditorium will be available for scheduled performances.

Animal Science (Scheduled completion this month) -- The project focuses on improvements to the lighting and audio-visual systems. This project is complete.
