Campus Construction Update for Week of Feb. 12

February 10, 2012

These are among the construction activities scheduled Feb. 12-18 at the University of Wyoming.

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities for the week:

Student Apartments Bison Run Village (Scheduled completion August 2012) -- The new apartments are in a three-block area south of Willett Drive between Crane and Soule streets. Apartment framing, electrical/plumbing rough-ins and insulation installation continue, followed by drywall installation, texturing and painting. The community center is complete. Punch list work is in progress, with occupancy scheduled for Feb. 13. There will be a total of 15 apartment buildings (332 beds) with a community center and maintenance building.

A&S Auditorium (Scheduled completion, this March) -- The project focuses on adding wheelchair access from the seating area to the stage. Painting continues this week. The auditorium will be available for scheduled performances.

Energy Innovation Center (formerly ERC, at 1020 Lewis Street, scheduled completion September 2012) -- Access to main campus will be between or through Earth Sciences and the Berry Center. Lewis Street will remain closed during construction. Parking will be limited in areas around construction, including the drive along the west side of Engineering. The access from main campus, along the west side of Engineering to Lewis Street, will be closed during this phase of construction. The west end of the ramp behind Engineering will be closed. Handicapped parking has been relocated to the northwest corner of Lewis and 10th streets, with access through the Berry Center or Earth Sciences to main campus. Minor concrete work, including minor floor slab pours, will continue throughout the week. There will be work on underground utilities throughout the site as foundation and steel erection allow. A small crane is on site for remaining steel work. There will be construction traffic for delivery of materials throughout the week. Expect congestion from deliveries. Framing of interior walls will continue, including rough-in of mechanical and electrical systems. Exterior wall systems framing will continue on all levels, along with a temporary weather enclosure. Take extreme care when walking around trucks waiting in the street.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week. Please direct questions to the service desk, 766-6225.

Notice: Snow and ice removal will occur as needed throughout the winter. Please use caution around snow removal equipment and be safe walking, riding and driving on the snow. To allow for snow and ice removal, there is no parking from 2-6 a.m. in the tow-away zone on the south side of Lewis Street. Report ice spots to the Physical Plant service desk.

Corbett Building -- Painting is under way in the main lobby and northwest office area this week. Please use caution in these areas.

Knight Hall -- Painting will continue in the stairways. Stairways will be signed and closed as they are painted. Please use other stairways or elevator.

East Shuttle Lot (30th Street and Willett Drive) -- Bus shelter relocations are on hold until the new shelters arrive.
