A University of Wyoming student was reported in stable condition at a Colorado hospital Thursday following an automobile/pedestrian crash Wednesday night.
Cale McCormick, 19, a freshman from Lewellen, Neb., was seriously injured in the 6:26 p.m. crash at the crosswalk of 15th Street and Ivinson Avenue, according to the Laramie Police Department.
McCormick was transported to Ivinson Memorial Hospital, and LifeFlight later transported him to a Colorado hospital due to the seriousness of his injuries.
"I spoke with his mother this morning, and he's showing some encouraging signs," UW Dean of Students Dave Cozzens says. "He has multiple injuries, including several fractures, but he's responsive. Cale is in the thoughts and prayers of all of us at the university."
The Laramie Police Department (LPD), University of Wyoming Police Department, Wyoming Highway Patrol and Albany County Sheriff's Office are conducting a multi-department investigation into the crash.
The vehicle's driver, 21-year-old Wyo Tech student Timothy Lund, was arrested on suspicion of DWUI-serious bodily injury, according to the LPD. That is a felony and may be punishable with a fine of up to $5,000 and imprisonment for up to 10 years.
