Campus Construction Update for Week of March 25

March 23, 2012

These are among the construction activities scheduled March 25-31 at the University of Wyoming:

Power Outage Saturday -- Electrical service will be interrupted Saturday, March 24, at the Geology, Earth Sciences and Bureau of Mines buildings, starting at approximately 7 a.m. The interruption will be brief at Geology and Bureau of Mines when the work begins and, again, when the project is completed, about eight to 12 hours later. Electrical power will be off the full eighth to 12 hours at the Earth Sciences Building.

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities for the week.

UW Office Annex (21st & Garfield, Scheduled completion Sept. 30, 2011) - The project involves partial renovation of the lower lever of the west wing for improvements to offices and other adjacent multi-user spaces. Asbestos abatement is under way until March 31. Access is restricted to the east and west entrances.

A&S Auditorium (Scheduled completion, this month) -- The project focuses on adding wheelchair access from the seating area to the stage. Lifts are being installed.

Energy Innovation Center (formerly ERC, at 1020 Lewis St., scheduled completion September 2012) -- Access to main campus will be between or through Earth Sciences and the Berry Center. Lewis Street will remain closed during construction. Parking will be limited in areas around construction, including the drive along the west side of Engineering. The access from main campus, along the west side of Engineering to Lewis Street, will be closed during this phase of construction. The west end of the ramp, behind Engineering, will be closed. Handicapped parking has been relocated to the northwest corner of Lewis and 10th streets, with access through the Berry Center or Earth Sciences Building to main campus.

Framing of interior walls will continue, including rough-in of mechanical and electrical systems. Exterior wall system framing will continue on all levels, along with temporary weather enclosure. Installation of the exterior enclosure will continue along the south and east, and includes insulation and masonry work. There will be construction traffic for delivery of materials throughout the week. Expect congestion from deliveries, and take extreme care when walking around trucks waiting in the street.

Student Apartments Bison Run Village (Scheduled completion August 2012) -- The new apartments are in a three-block area south of Willett Drive, between Crane and Soule streets. Apartment framing, electrical/plumbing rough-ins and insulation installation continue, followed by drywall installation, texturing and painting. Exterior stone, siding and roofing also continues. The community center and apartment model units are now open Mondays through Fridays from 1-5 p.m. Punch list work continues. There will be a total of 15 apartment buildings (332 beds) with a community center and maintenance building.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week. Please direct questions to the service desk, 766-6225.

Notice: Snow and ice removal will occur as needed throughout the winter. Please use caution around snow removal equipment and be safe walking, riding and driving on the snow. To allow for snow and ice removal, there is no parking from 2-6 a.m. in the tow-away zone on the south side of Lewis Street. Report ice spots to the Physical Plant Service Desk.

Old Main -- Domestic hot water will be shut off Tuesday, March 27, from 6-8:30 a.m. for repairs to the system.

Information Technology Center -- A lift will be staged on the south side of the facility to facilitate roof repairs. Please use caution around staging area.
