UW Alert System Test Successful

March 26, 2012

More than 13,000 University of Wyoming students, faculty and staff members received a text message on their cell phones within minutes after it was sent last Thursday in a system-wide test of the university's text notification system, UW Alert.

An email message also was sent to all exchange users. In the event of a real emergency, those signed up for the UW Alert system would have received specific instructions. Also, a message was linked to digital signs on campus, which can display the same messages delivered via text to students and employees in the event of an emergency.

The text alert system (www.uwyo.edu/uwalert), one of many safety initiatives in place at UW, provides a means to quickly reach as many members of the university community as possible.
