UW College of Education Joins Operation Educate the Educator

April 13, 2012

The University of Wyoming College of Education has joined an effort to help prepare educators to better meet the needs of dependents of military service members.

"Operation Educate the Educator" was initiated through the American Association of Colleges of Teacher Education (AACTE). Leadership of the Wyoming Teacher Education Programs (WTEP), which operates under UW's College of Education, recently agreed to join the initiative.

"We're pleased to contribute to preparing the nation's classroom teachers to better meet the needs of the military-connected student population," says Kay Persichitte, UW College of Education dean.

This population includes children in grades K-12 who are dependents of military service members, as well as adolescents and young adults enrolled in trade schools or institutions of higher learning.

The program includes a set of guidelines and implementation strategies that are being reviewed for incorporation within the WTEP.
