Austin-based band The Lonesome Heroes will perform a free concert from 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m. Wednesday, July 18, on the University of Wyoming Simpson Plaza.

With the core of the band consisting of the songwriting duo of Landry McMeans and Rich Russell, The Lonesome Heroes create music that can be described as indie, folk and Americana. Having such a diverse range of musical genre, McMeans and Russell describe their musical influences to be Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson and Gillian Welch.

“Russell and McMeans operate as opposite yet complementary poles,” writes Doug Freeman of The Austin Chronicle. “The former more grounded voice and vision, the latter providing an airier twang trained on finely woven narratives.”

Their full-length album "Daydream Western" was nominated by The Independent Music Awards as album of the year for 2011.

Wednesday’s performance is part of a weekly concert series sponsored by the Campus Activities Center.  Individuals needing assistance to attend should call (307) 766-6340. For more information, visit www.uwyo.edu/cac.
