August Winds opens the Department of Music Faculty Recital Series Wednesday, Aug. 29, at 8 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center concert hall.

These are among the activities scheduled Aug. 27-Sept. 2 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Aug. 27, 5 p.m. -- Indie-folk trio Good Old War performs during the annual welcome back barbecue on Fraternity Mall. Free.

Tuesday, Aug. 28, 8 a.m.-8 p.m. -- UW’s nationally recognized Nordic ski team will hold its “Trash 2 Treasure” fundraiser at Fraternity Mall.

Tuesday, Aug. 28, 7-9 p.m. -- Old House Workshop, “Is My House Historic,” introducing resources in Albany County, Lincoln Community Center, 365 West Grand Ave. Free.

Wednesday, Aug. 29, 7:30 p.m. -- The guest woodwind quintet August Winds opens the Department of Music Faculty Recital Series in the Fine Arts concert hall.  

Wednesday, Aug. 29, 8 p.m. -- Hypnotist-magician Kevin Hurley performs in the Wyoming Union Ballroom. Free.

Thursday, Aug. 30, 5-7 p.m. -- Field day at the Laramie Research and Extension Center greenhouse, southwest corner of 30th and Harney streets. Free.

Thursday, Aug. 30, 6-8 p.m. -- Eminent Writer in Residence Maggie Nelson will read from her works and sign books at the UW Art Museum, 2111 Willett Drive. Free.

Friday, Aug. 31, 1:30 p.m. -- Cowgirl volleyball vs. Bethune Cookman, and vs. George Washington at 7 p.m., UniWyo Sports Complex. Game tickets cost $5 for adults, $3 for children, free for UW students.

Friday, Aug. 31, 4 p.m. -- Cowgirl soccer vs. George Washington, Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex. Tickets cost $5 for adults, $3 for children, free for UW students.

Saturday, Sept. 1, 1:30 p.m. -- Cowgirl volleyball vs. Florida Gulf Coast, and vs. U. Missouri at Kansas City at 7 p.m., UniWyo Sports Complex. Game tickets cost $5 for adults, $3 for children, free for UW students.

Sunday, Sept. 2, 1 p.m. -- Cowgirl soccer vs. Eastern Washington, Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex. Tickets cost $5 for adults, $3 for children, free for UW students.
