UW Eminent Artist Series Features Art Discussion and Gallery Tour with Scenic Artist John Ezell

October 11, 2012 — Scenic artist John Ezell will discuss his work and lead a gallery walkthrough during activities scheduled Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 15-16, at the University of Wyoming.

The art talk is Monday, Oct. 15, at 7 p.m. in Room 111 of the UW Visual Arts Building, followed by a reception. Ezell will lead a gallery walkthrough Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 10:30 a.m. in the UW Art Museum galleries.

Ezell’s gallery, “Bold Strokes and Finesse: The Stage Designs of John Ezell,” can be seen through Nov. 10 at the UW Art museum.

All events are free and open to the public.

Ezell received nine Critics’ Circle Awards, the Award for Experimental Television Art and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting Award for Excellence. Known for his experimental use of polystyrenes and vacuum-formed thermoplastics, his stage designs respected the playwright’s textual components while showcasing Ezell’s own sense of eclecticism, scholarship and art history.

The UW Eminent Artist Series, the UW Department of Theatre and Dance, and the UW Art Museum sponsor these events.

“Imagine learning from the masters” is a guiding principle of the UW Art Museum’s programs. Located in the Centennial Complex at 2111 Willett Drive in Laramie, the museum is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday hours are extended to 9 p.m. February through April and September through November. Admission is free.
