Campus Construction Update for Nov. 18

These are among the construction activities scheduled Nov. 18-Dec. 1 at the University of Wyoming.

Power Outage Scheduled at Earth Sciences, Geology, Bureau of Mines and Energy Innovation Center -- Power outages are scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 17, from 7 a.m.-3 p.m., due to ongoing work at the Energy Innovation Center. Geology and Bureau of Mines will be without power for half an hour at the beginning of outage and another half hour at the end of the outage. Earth Sciences and the Energy Innovation Center will be without power during the entire outage.

Engineering Building Addition Power Shutdown -- An electrical shutdown is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 27 and 28, from 6-7:30 a.m., for the first and second floors. Occupants of these floors have been notified and signs will be posted prior to shut down.

Electrical Power Outage at Wainwright and Willett Bungalows -- Electrical power will be off Wednesday, Nov. 21, from 1-3:30 p.m.

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities for the week:

Enzi STEM Facility -- The parking lot on the east side of 10th and Lewis streets is closed. The contractor will fill in foundations on the east side for the start of the construction of the Michael B. Enzi STEM Facility. The contractor also will work on installing a fiber optic line to Transpark. Utility companies will be on the site of and on to start the decommissioning of the electric lines. Street parking along the site is now open.

Ivinson Parking Lot -- The Ivinson monument masonry work is complete. A concrete ramp and monument pad are partially complete. Flood lights are installed, and the remaining concrete pad installation is scheduled this week. Commemoration plaques will be installed at the end of the month. All four metered spaces and motorcycle parking are now open. All of the Ivinson parking lot is now open, adding 67 new parking spaces including ADA (Americans with Disability Act) spaces and four metered spaces. Access is from both 10th and 11th streets. Landscaping is complete.

Museum Closed -- The UW Geological Museum is closed for renovation and is scheduled to reopen in January. The first phase of landscaping around the T-Rex area will be complete within the next few days.

Counselor Education Training Clinic (Education Building, scheduled completion mid-December) -- Renovation construction in the northeast portion of the Education Building basement continues with emphasis on interior finishes. Limited access for students, faculty and staff via the northeast building entry remains open with the adjacent construction staging area being reconfigured to simplify access. Construction activities and staging will continue, requiring appropriate caution in the area. Temporary substitute accessible parking has been designated with temporary signage.

UW Office Annex (21st Street and Garfield, scheduled completion Nov. 15) -- The project involves partial renovation of the lower level of the west wing for improvements to offices and other adjacent multi-use spaces. Conference rooms are complete. Ongoing work includes mechanical and electrical system testing, cabinets, plumbing fixtures, doors and hardware, and trim-out. Punch lists have been issued. The Wyoming Small Business Development Center and Market Research Center are scheduled to move in this week.

ESCo Project (Energy Services Company) -- Long Energy Services Co. employees will be working in the Agriculture and Engineering building mechanical rooms this week

University of Wyoming/Casper College Student Union (UW/CC Student Union, scheduled completion November 2013) -- The primary building enclosure is complete, allowing interior construction activities to proceed on schedule. Framing of interior partitions and mechanical/electrical rough-in continues throughout the UW third- and fourth-floor spaces continues. Overall project construction is approximately 55 percent complete.

White Hall Renovations -- New installations continue on the eighth through 12th floors. Excavation for a new transformer vault on the east side of White Hall is complete, with new electrical feed and concrete forming scheduled for this week. Fencing is placed around the area. The west parking lot will be closed until summer 2013.

Energy Innovation Center (formerly ERC, at 1020 Lewis St., scheduled completion October 2012) -- Access to main campus will be between or through Earth Sciences and the Berry Center. Lewis Street will remain closed during construction. Parking will be limited in areas around construction, including the drive along the west side of Engineering. The access from main campus, along the west side of Engineering to Lewis Street, will be closed during this phase of construction. The west end of the ramp, located behind the Engineering Building, will be closed. Handicapped parking has been relocated to the northwest corner of Lewis and 10th streets, with access through the Berry Center or Earth Sciences Building to main campus.

Interior finishes and cleanup are continuing throughout the building to prepare for furniture installation starting and occupant move in. Installation of lab equipment and casework is complete on the first and second floors. Exterior cleanup will begin with completion of landscape work and remaining site work. The contractor has moved construction staging from the parking area north of Lewis. This will increase congestion and traffic on Lewis. Watch for trucks and equipment.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week. Please direct questions to the service desk, 766-6225.

Snow Removal -- Physical Plant crews will be removing snow as needed throughout the season. Watch for snow removal equipment, be careful and safe during snow events, and call the service desk at 766-6225 to report ice spots and problem areas.

Centennial Complex -- Air handling systems will be shut down intermittently Monday, Nov 26, from 7:30 a.m.-noon, to allow for replacement of air filters. Building occupants may notice a slight temperature change while air handlers are off. Building contacts have been notified.

History -- Painting of hallways has begun on the fourth floor. Please use caution around work areas.

Engineering Building -- Painting in the restrooms on the third and fourth floors are under way. Signs have been posted as to which restrooms are affected. Painting on the fifth and sixth floors is complete. 

Physical Science Building -- Modifications to the liquid nitrogen tank on the north side of the building are ongoing. Please use caution in this area.

Knight Hall -- Ceiling repairs are under way where lighting upgrades were recently installed. Crews have completed work on the third floor and are now patching and painting on the first and second floors. Bathrooms within the building also are scheduled to be patched and painted. Scheduling will be completed with departments and room occupants. Please use caution near equipment and materials.

Jacoby Golf Course -- Inlet construction is complete with the exception of asphalt patching. The outlet pipe on the south side of Grays Gable should be complete within the next few days, weather permitting. Please use caution in the work areas. Grays Gable is open to traffic.

Education Building -- Final system work continues in the Education auditorium to integrate new projector equipment with the existing system.

Beta House -- Renovations to the first and second floors continue. Completion of the project has been extended to late November due to mechanical and plumbing issues.

Rochelle Athletic Center -- Construction is ongoing on the hydrotherapy pool room renovation in the training room. The staging area is at the southeast corner of the building. Access to the area will be limited to authorized personnel.

Earth Science Building and Coe Library -- Cell site upgrades are complete. Punch list items and site tuning will continue during normal working hours.

Service Building -- Replacement of roof and installation of light tubes is complete.
