University of Wyoming to Host State High School Football Championships

The Wyoming State High School Football Championships will be held at the University of Wyoming for the fourth consecutive year Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9-10.

All five Wyoming High School Activities Association (WHSAA) classifications will play on Jonah Field in War Memorial Stadium at UW.

The 1A 6-man state championship game features a rematch of last year with defending champion Little Snake River (H) taking on Dubois (V) at noon Friday, followed by the 3A matchup at 3 p.m. with defending champion Powell (H) taking on Star Valley (V).

Three games will be featured Saturday. At 10 a.m., Lovell (V) attempts to defend its state title against Lyman (H) in a rematch of the 2011 2A state championship; the 1A 11-man title game at 1 p.m. will be Southeast (V) vs. Niobrara County (H); and the 4A state championship game at 4 p.m. features Natrona County (H) against Campbell County (V). The home teams will be located on the east side of the stadium, while the visitors will be on the west side.

The Albany County Tourism Board, Laramie High School and UW host the games with the WHSAA.

Tickets to all championship games can be purchased online at the WHSAA website at www.whsaa.org. Fans also may purchase tickets through the UW Athletics website at www.gowyo.com/ by clicking the "Buy Online" selection under the "Ticket" menu at the top of the page and scrolling down to the "Wyoming High School Football Championships" link.

All-session tickets cost $16 for adults and $11 for youths (ages 3-18). Single-day tickets are $11 for adults and $8 for youths. All tickets are general admission. Tickets also will be on sale game days at the stadium at the booth near Gate 8; south of War Memorial Fieldhouse near Gate 1; and the east ticket booth near Gate 4. All will call tickets will be at the Arena-Auditorium main ticket office.

Gates will open at 11 a.m. Friday and at 9 a.m. Saturday. Programs will be on sale at each game for $2.

Seating in War Memorial Stadium will be in the lower levels on both the east and west sides. The home team (higher seed) in each classification will be located on the east sideline of the stadium and the visiting team (lower seed) will be on the west side.

Free parking is available in all the lots around War Memorial Stadium, except the "D" Lot (south of the Fieldhouse), which requires a WHSAA permit. Fans are encouraged to park in the Stadium Lot, the Indoor Practice Facility Lot, and the Summit View Lot located east of War Memorial Stadium. Fans who park in the AA Lot (next to the Arena-Auditorium) may be asked to move their vehicles prior to the Wyoming basketball games on Friday and Saturday evening.

Visiting football fans also have the opportunity to watch UW's athletics teams in action this weekend. The Cowgirl basketball team opens the regular season at 7 p.m. Friday in the Arena-Auditorium against Idaho.

On Saturday, the Cowgirl volleyball team will host UNLV at 6 p.m. in the UniWyo Sports Complex, followed by the UW Cowboys basketball team against Western State College (Gunnison, Colo.) in the Arena-Auditorium at 8 p.m.

The Stadium Lot, Summit View and baseball lots, located east of the stadium, will be open for public parking for both basketball games.
