The Women’s Leadership Conference “Find your VOICE,” scheduled Friday and Saturday, Nov. 9-10, encourages young leaders to find their voices.

Registration costs $10 and will begin Friday, Nov. 9, at 5:30 p.m. in the University of Wyoming Union Center and East ballrooms. Following registration, seven distinguished women will be honored for their leadership at the “Women of Distinction” banquet. For more information and to register for the conference, visit www.uwyo.edu/slce/leadership-programs/wl.html.

“These women have exemplified true leadership in a variety of fields. They are exceptional examples of leadership for the women in our community,” says the UW student leaders committee. “This award not only honors the women for their extraordinary contributions to their professions and the community, but also honors their ability to overcome the difficult barriers that still exist for women.”

Those to be honored are Donna Brown, Johnna Nunez, Lacey Patton, Dona Playton, Elena Oggero, Terri Rittenburg and Amy Spiker. They will share their experiences and offer advice to future leaders.

After the banquet, the movie “The Invisible War” will be shown at 8:30 p.m. in the West Ballroom. The movie is free and open to the public, including those not registered for the conference. For more information about the movie, visit http://invisiblewarmovie.com/.

The conference resumes Saturday, Nov. 10, in the Wyoming Union. Registration is at 8:30 a.m. followed by inspirational speaker Elaine Penn’s keynote talk on “The Heart of Leadership.” The workshop will inspire women to find their “voice” through values, opportunities, involvement, confidence and energy.

“These workshops will demonstrate effective skills for leadership development and will make attendees aware of opportunities for leadership in our own community,” the committee says.

The SLCE (Service, Leadership and Community Engagement) office, Multicultural Affairs, the College of Health Sciences, the UW Police Department, the Women’s Center and the UW Copy Center sponsor the event.
