Town Hall Meeting for UW Performing Arts Construction

January 23, 2013

A town hall-style meeting to inform the public of the construction activities for the planned University of Wyoming Performing Arts Center project is set for 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, in the Fine Arts Main Stage theatre.

Construction will begin soon on the Performing Arts project, funded by a combination of bond proceeds, a $14.2 million legislative appropriation, private donations and other funds.

In 2012, UW’s visual arts programs moved into the new Visual Arts facility on the east end of campus. The 43-year-old Performing Arts Building will continue to be home to the theater, dance and music programs.

The Performing Arts Center project will include approximately 50,000 gross square feet of new construction and approximately 120,000 gross square feet of renovation of portions of the existing building.

The improvements to the building will include: corrections to sound bleed problems in existing spaces; modern practice and teaching rooms with appropriately designed and constructed sound attenuation; modern technology; new and improved faculty offices; office support such as work rooms, reception, conference/seminar rooms, lounges and storage rooms; teaching laboratory/studios such as music, music rehearsal, acting and dance; and performance spaces such as concert halls and theatres.
