Campus Construction Update for Feb. 17

February 15, 2013

These are among the construction activities scheduled Feb. 17-23 at the University of Wyoming.

The UW Facilities Planning Office reports the following activities for the week:

College of Education Annex Canopy and Connection (North of Education Building and east of Education Annex; scheduled completion August 2013) -- Preconstruction tasks for the project are under way. Limited and sporadic non-construction activity at the project site may be occurring. Access to and through the project site remains unaffected.

Education Annex – Literacy Research Center and Clinic (Lower floor, Education Annex; scheduled completion January 2014) -- Preconstruction tasks for the project are under way. Limited and sporadic non-construction activity at the project site may be occurring. Access to and through the project site remains unaffected.

Performing Arts Center (Fine Arts, scheduled completion spring 2015) -- The contractor will fence off about one-fourth of the parking lot and set its trailers.

Enzi STEM Facility (Scheduled completion June 2015) -- Work on installing the water lines under 11th Street should conclude by mid-week. The contractor will work on miscellaneous site items in preparing removal of buried foundations on the site’s west side.

White Hall Renovations -- New installations continue on the sixth through 12th floors. Rough-in installations continue in the basement through fifth floor. Window replacement is complete on the sixth through 12th floors and will continue down each floor. The new east entry foundation is complete, with steel erection starting this week. Fencing is placed around the area. The west parking lot will be closed until summer 2013.

University of Wyoming/Casper College Student Union (UW/CC Student Union, scheduled completion November 2013) -- The primary building enclosure is complete, allowing interior construction activities to proceed on schedule. Framing of interior partitions and mechanical/electrical rough-in continue throughout the UW third- and fourth-floor spaces. Overall project construction is approximately 61 percent complete.

ESCo Project (Energy Services Company) -- Long Energy Services Co. employees will be in a room TBD in the Agriculture Building for a lighting mock-up. This will have minimal impact on occupants for short periods of time. Lighting retrofits at the Centennial Complex has begun on the first floor. Workers will wear identifying badges.

Energy Innovation Center (formerly ERC, at 1020 Lewis St.) -- Lewis Street remains closed during construction. School of Energy Resources and Enhanced Oil Recovery Institute personnel now occupy the EIC. First- and second-floor labs are being prepared for researchers. Access to main campus now includes the passage between Engineering and the new EIC, along with access between or through Earth Sciences and the Berry Center. Access to the EIC north entrance will be on Lewis from the east along Lewis. Parking will be limited in areas around construction. Limited handicapped parking may be available south of the EIC and west of Engineering. Handicapped parking has been relocated to the northwest corner of Lewis and 10th streets, with access through the Berry Center or Earth Sciences Building to main campus.

Work on the third-floor lab and the second-floor conference rooms, along with 3-D visualization space, will be ongoing. The contractor has moved construction staging from the parking area north of Lewis. This will increase congestion and traffic on Lewis. Watch for UW trucks and equipment in addition to the contractors.

The UW Physical Plant reports the following activities for the week. Please direct questions to the service desk, 766-6225.

Snow Removal -- Physical Plant crews will remove snow as needed throughout the season. Watch for snow removal equipment, be careful and safe during snow events, and call the service desk at 766-6225 to report ice spots and problem areas.

Fieldhouse North -- Repairs to the domestic hot and cold water service will cause an interruption in service to the building Thursday, Feb. 21, from 6 a.m.-1 p.m. The Fieldhouse and Arena-Auditorium will not be affected by the shutdown. Building contacts have been notified.

Anthropology Building -- Due to investigation and repairs of a water leak on the first floor, access to the Lewis Street entrance may be closed intermittently for short periods. Work will be ongoing on the exterior walls above the entry canopy roof. Please use the building’s west entrance when the Lewis Street entrance is barricaded. Exercise caution in work areas.

Geology Building -- Renovations to Classroom 216 are ongoing. Please use caution around crews and equipment in this area.

Physical Science Building -- Modifications to the liquid nitrogen tank on the north side of the building are ongoing. Please use caution in this area.

Beta House -- Construction is substantially complete and punch list items are being completed. Video classrooms 105 and 205 are in use. HVAC control work is nearing completion. New furnishings have been installed. Video editing equipment, media and personnel are being moved from the Centrex building.
