UW Will Host Earth Day Activities

April 19, 2013

A barbecue, film, speaker and a campus cleanup are among activities scheduled to commemorate Earth Day 2013 Monday, April 22, at the University of Wyoming.

An Earth Day Expo is scheduled from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Simpson Plaza. The event allows different groups, organizations and businesses to talk to students, faculty, staff and community members. A number of student organizations will talk to students about membership.

Laramie Waste and Recycling will answer visitors’ questions. The UW Police Department will provide information about bicycle safety, and the Outdoor Program will offer minor bike maintenance.

The campus cleanup will take place during the Earth Day Expo, with gloves and bags provided at check-in at Simpson Plaza. Alpha Gamma Rho will offer a free barbecue from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. to promote Wyoming agriculture.

Former UW Board of Trustees member James Trosper will speak at 4 p.m. in the College of Education auditorium. He will encourage involvement of diverse populations and interest groups in activities such as Earth Day. Trosper’s talk is sponsored by the Society for Advancing Chicanos and Native Americans in Science, and American Indians in Science and Engineering Society. Both groups want to start a Laramie/UW chapter.

The film “On Thin Ice” will be shown at 7 p.m. in the College of Agriculture auditorium.

The UW ECO Council sponsors the campus Earth Day events.
