Mike Smith
The Wyoming Section Society for Range Management (SRM) presented its Distinguished Lifetime Achievement to University of Wyoming Extension range specialist Mike Smith.
A professor in the Department of Ecosystem Science and Management in the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, Smith received the award during the organization’s recent meeting in Sheridan.
The award recognizes Smith for long-term contributions to SRM and range management, according to the organization. Recipients show sustained, outstanding lifetime contributions to the art and science of range management, and continued SRM involvement at the section and society levels.
Smith has been an SRM member since 1965. His research focuses on water quality, livestock and vegetation management in sagebrush ecosystems. His Extension assignments are in the areas of range management, improvements and monitoring, and sustainable livestock production systems.
He previously received the SRM Achievement and Fellow awards, and a U.S. Forest Service Range Stewardship award as a member of the Wyoming Range Service Team.
Smith plans to retire from UW this spring.
