UW Operations Continue as Crews Work to Restore Power to Part of Campus

December 6, 2013

Crews are continuing their efforts to restore power to the east end of the University of Wyoming campus following an accident involving a dump truck and a power pole early this morning.

Rocky Mountain Power now estimates it could be 11 a.m. until power returns to most UW buildings between 15th and 30th streets, says Mark Collins, UW’s associate vice president for operations. Among the buildings affected are the residence halls, Washakie Dining Center, university apartments between 22nd and 30th streets, and fraternity and sorority houses. Other parts of Laramie also were affected.

Heat is on in the UW residence halls, but no food service will be available at the Washakie Dining Center until power is back on. Campus buildings west of 15th Street still have power, and classes and other university activities -- including fall commencement ceremonies -- are proceeding as scheduled.

A dump truck unloading snow knocked down a power pole and power lines, causing the outage. Rocky Mountain Power crews are on the scene.
