Custodial Supervisor Beverly Arellano, who has provided students with quality service for more than 30 years, is the University of Wyoming’s Outstanding Staff Employee of the Fourth Quarter.

The award recognizes UW staff members for their efforts toward excellence in the workplace.

“The work she performs today is the same quality as she provided when she first started this job. She has made an impact on students as she truly cares about them,” a colleague wrote. “When she is absent, the students inquire about her. This kind of dedication and the knowledge makes her one of a kind.”

Another nominator noted that Arellano serves as an outstanding role model for her co-workers.

“In a supervisory role, she still works harder than any individual performing the same type job, not only showing and teaching but proving that she is in the game with them. She truly is a team player and always has a smile on her face and positive outlook.”

UW students, who affectionately refer to Arellano as “Miss Bev,” appreciate the excellent work she has provided to maintain cleanliness of the university apartments and residence halls. She began as a custodian in 1981, and has served as a supervisor since the early 1990s. Some of the students Arellano serves today are the children of those who attended UW when they were students.

“I’ve met so many interesting people over the years,” says Arellano, who often has invited students into her home when she learned they would otherwise have to spend holidays alone. “I’ve worked very hard and been devoted to the University of Wyoming my entire adult life, and it’s been equally good to me over all these years.”

Employee of the Quarter nominees can be any UW staff employee and must receive three nomination forms from three separate individuals. Nominations must be submitted to the Staff Senate office. The forms are on the web at
