Public Meeting Jan. 9 on Enzi STEM Facility Construction

January 3, 2014

A public meeting about construction of the University of Wyoming’s Michael B. Enzi STEM Facility is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 9, in the atrium of the Berry Biodiversity Conservation Center at 10th and Lewis streets.

The meeting -- hosted by UW’s Facilities Planning Office, the Wyoming Department of Administration and Information’s Construction Management Division, and the City of Laramie -- will include presentations of conceptual drawings of the facility, information on project schedules, street mitigation measures, and a general question-and-answer session. Sallie Means of By Architectural Means, architect for the project, will provide a detailed PowerPoint presentation beginning at 6 p.m., followed by the question-and-answer session. Anyone interested in the project is invited to attend.

Construction activity is underway for the Enzi STEM Facility, which will include teaching laboratories for introductory courses such as general chemistry, general biology, organic chemistry, elementary physics, mathematics, computational sciences, computer science and other large-enrollment lab courses. The nearly 100,000-square-foot facility will house about 32 laboratories, eight preparatory rooms and eight offices. It will not house research laboratories.

Funding for the new building was made available through a 2011 Wyoming legislative appropriation of $50 million in federal Abandoned Mine Lands dollars. Completion is scheduled in late spring 2015.
