The final day to see the University of Wyoming Art Museum exhibition, “Stocked: Contemporary Art from the Grocery Aisles,” is Saturday, May 31.

Shopping carts, candy wrappers, grocery lists, paper bags, milk bottles and cereal boxes -- these often overlooked items emerge as objects for artistic investigation in “Stocked: Contemporary Art from the Grocery Aisles.” The exhibition presents the work of contemporary artists who take the grocery store and consumption of its products as their subjects.

“Using strategies culled from minimalism, performance, documentary photography and scientific taxonomy, they interrogate not only the grocery items we purchase, but also the physical and psychological environments in which we shop, the individuals and social frameworks we encounter there, and the cultural norms that inform our habits of consumption,” says Susan Moldenhauer, UW Art Museum director.

“Stocked: Contemporary Art from the Grocery Aisles” is organized by the Ulrich Museum of Art, Wichita State University, and is curated by Emily Stamey. Supporters include the Lois Kay Walls Foundation Trust, Spirit Aerosystem and Delta Dental.

Additional sponsors are Louise Beren, John and Nancy Brammer, Norma Greever, Richard D. Smith and Sondra M. Langel, and Keith and Georgia Stevens. Support also has been provided by Wichita State University and the city of Wichita. UW’s presentation is funded, in part, by UW Art Museum Gala funds and the Wyoming Arts Council through the Wyoming State Legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.

For more information, call the Art Museum at (307) 766-6622 or visit www.uwyo.edu/artmuseum or follow the museum on Facebook or Instagram.

Through its Museum as Classroom approach, the UW Art Museum places art at the center of learning for all ages. The museum is located in the Centennial Complex at 2111 Willett Drive in Laramie. Hours are Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m.–5 p.m. Admission is free.
