New Fall Semester Exhibitions Open at the UW Art Museum

A free public reception for the University of Wyoming Art Museum’s opening fall exhibitions is Friday, Sept. 12, from 6-8 p.m.

The opening exhibitions are “Ralston Crawford: The Artist’s Eye”; “John Grade: Middle Fork”; “Luz y Colores: Emilio Sanchez’s Carribean”; and four small exhibitions in the Pat Guthrie Special Exhibitions Teaching Gallery.

“Ralston Crawford: The Artist’s Eye,” a major exhibition by the American artist, investigates Crawford’s work throughout his career.

“John Grade: Middle Fork” offers a new perspective about trees, their relationship to humans, and the relationship of the sculpture to its original source in the landscape through a casting of a 100-foot tall live, old growth tree.

“Luz y Colores: Emilo Sanchez’s Caribbean” highlights the artist’s investigation of the effects of light and color with Caribbean architectural themes.

The Pat Guthrie Special Exhibitions Teaching Gallery presents works from the permanent collection that UW faculty members have selected for courses being taught this semester. The installation is divided into four sections, one exhibition per wall for each class.

For more information, call the Art Museum at (307) 766-6622, visit www.uwyo.edu/artmuseum or follow the museum on Facebook or Instagram.

Through its “museum as classroom” approach, the UW Art Museum places art at the center of learning for all ages. The museum is located in the Centennial Complex at 2111 Willett Drive in Laramie. Hours are Tuesdays through Saturdays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. and from 10 a.m.-9 p.m. Mondays. Admission is free.
