Oil and gas development on the Wind River Indian Reservation is the topic of a discussion Monday, Oct. 6, at the University of Wyoming.
Shoshone tribal leader John Washakie will discuss “At What Cost: Politics, Sovereignty and Oil and Gas Development on the Wind River Indian Reservation” at 4 p.m. in Room 127 of the College of Business Building.
Washakie, former chairman of the Shoshone Business Council and a Fort Washakie School and Community Library staff member, will discuss how oil and gas development on the reservation in the 1980s shaped a generation of younger tribal leaders.
The UW American Indian Studies Program sponsors Washakie’s talk. For more information, call the program’s office at (307) 766-6521.
