A fusion of Indian and Western music can be heard during a free performance by Sands Around Infinity Sunday, Oct. 12, at 7:30 p.m. in the University of Wyoming Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall.
“Their sound explores the rich colors made possible through the interplay between the voice and instruments, mixing these all with a variety of spices including Western classical, jazz and tango,” says Rod Garnett, UW professor of music.
Sands Around Infinity is a family ensemble built upon the diverse musical experiences of each member. Jeffrey and Robbie Erhard lived and studied for a number of years in Southern India. Paul Erhard, trained in Western classical music and jazz, has studied Carnatic and Hindustani styles in India and the United States. The group has performed in California, Colorado, Maryland, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, Germany and India.
The College of Arts and Sciences and UW’s Indian student organization, MILAAP, sponsor the performance. For more information, visit http://sandsaroundinfinity.com/, or call Garnett at (307) 760-6862.
