William Evans’ extraordinary efforts to ensure the success of the first Cowboy Kickoff concert exemplify the characteristics that have earned him the University of Wyoming’s Staff Employee of the Third Quarter award.

The award recognizes UW staff members for their efforts toward excellence in the workplace.

Evans, associate director of Residence Life and Dining Services (RLDS), planned, organized and led the behind-the-scenes activities that brought singer Craig Morgan to campus. The event brought UW and the Laramie community together and instilled excitement for the coming academic year at the university.

The event’s success came as no surprise to people who know and work with Evans. As one nominator noted, “His work is timely, complete and thorough as well as being innovative. He continues to serve as a solid and passionate role model for staff within our department as well as across campus. He is simply an ideal team member, who can always be counted on to give 110 percent.”

Co-workers praise Evans for his creative and innovative initiatives to retain residential students.

“He is always forward thinking of ways that continue to make UW a great place to study or work,” a colleague wrote. “His efforts have impacted our large student staff, our professional staff and, indirectly, the thousands of students we serve during the academic year.”

Evans came to UW in 2012 after serving seven years in a similar position at California’s Loyola Marymount University.

“I truly enjoy working with our Residence Life and Student Affairs staff to create memorable and shared experiences that enhance our UW community for our students,” he says. Evans cites Vice President for Student Affairs Sara Axelson and RLDS Executive Director Patrick Call for “giving me opportunities to make a difference and have a positive impact on the University of Wyoming and our students.”

Employee of the Quarter nominees can be any UW staff employee and must receive three nomination forms from three separate individuals. Nominations must be submitted to the Staff Senate office. The forms are on the web at The deadline to nominate someone for the fourth quarter award is Friday, Dec. 5.
