Public Invited to Review, Comment on UW Historic Preservation Plan

February 23, 2015

The final draft of the University of Wyoming’s updated Historic Preservation Plan is now available for review by the public.

Among other things, the plan includes architectural design standards for new and renovated buildings to preserve UW’s classical architectural tradition.

The draft plan is available at Members of the public have an opportunity to comment on the plan at that same site. The deadline for submitting comments is March 18.

The draft plan was developed by The Design Studio Inc. (TDSi) of Cheyenne, hired by the university to update UW’s 1999 Historic Preservation Plan to preserve UW’s historic buildings and landscapes. After reviewing public comments, the consultant plans to complete the plan by mid-April, with possible presentation to the UW Board of Trustees at its May meeting.

During development of the plan, TDSi has held a number of public meetings to present its findings and solicit input.

The consultant’s work has included assessments of all of the buildings constructed before 1980 on the main campus to identify significant architectural features and themes. The draft plan includes details of those assessments, along with a host of information about the history of UW facilities.
