Members of the community will have an opportunity to hear from specialists updating the University of Wyoming’s Historic Preservation Plan, and provide input, during two public discussions Wednesday, Feb. 18.

The first, set from noon-1:30 p.m. in the College of Business’s BU9 classroom, is for UW employees and students. The second, from 6:30-8 p.m. at the Alice Hardie Stevens Center, is for members of the broader community.

Any UW employees and students unable to attend the noon session are invited to attend the evening meeting. Likewise, members of the public who can’t make the evening session are welcome to attend the noon gathering.

At both meetings, representatives of The Design Studio Inc. (TDSi) of Cheyenne and professional historical preservation specialists will present their draft update to the plan to preserve UW’s historic buildings and landscapes, including architectural guidelines. Those in attendance then will have an opportunity to comment and ask questions.

In 2014, UW commissioned TDSi to review the university’s 1999 Historic Preservation Plan, and to conduct an assessment of all of the buildings constructed before 1980 on the main campus to identify significant architectural features and themes. The firm is helping the university develop architectural design standards for new and renovated buildings that preserve UW’s classical architectural tradition, and is assisting in developing a policy pertaining to the review of proposals to deconstruct any building that the study determines to be historic.

UW’s Facilities Planning Office is coordinating the sessions. For more information, call 766-2250 or email Facilitiesplan@uwyo.edu.
