An accomplished scholar with experience in the private sector and government has been selected as the new dean of the University of Wyoming’s College of Law.

Klint Alexander, currently an attorney in a major Southeastern law firm and senior lecturer in international law and politics at Vanderbilt University and the University of London’s Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, will begin his new post at UW July 1.

“Dr. Alexander brings a wealth and variety of experience, along with enthusiasm and vision, that will allow our strong College of Law to continue moving forward,” Vice President for Academic Affairs David Jones says. “We’re excited about what the future of the college holds under his leadership.”

With interests that include energy law, utilities regulation and international trade, Alexander has served in teaching and leadership roles at several major institutions, including Yale, Vanderbilt and the University of London.

Since 2013, he has been a member of the global business team of the law firm of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell and Berkowitz, the firm of former U.S. Sen. and Ambassador to Japan Howard Baker. At the same time, Alexander has taught undergraduate, graduate and law school courses at Vanderbilt, where he holds a joint appointment on the political science and law faculties, and at the University of London’s Institute of Advanced Legal Studies.

“It is a real honor to join the law faculty at the University of Wyoming as dean. UW is an outstanding institution with a great reputation for doing the things right that really matter in public higher education, such as keeping tuition and the faculty-student ratio low, while preparing students to compete in a more advanced global economy,” Alexander says. “I sincerely hope and believe that my experiences in academia, government and the private sector will bring a multidimensional vision and approach that will elevate the law school to new heights.”

During the mid-1990s, Alexander was an official in the U.S. Trade Representative’s Office in Washington, D.C., responsible for coordinating trade policy reviews and representing the White House in negotiations before the World Trade Organization and the World Customs Organization.

Alexander received a bachelor’s degree in history from Yale in 1991; master’s (1994) and doctoral (1997) degrees in international relations from Cambridge University; and his law degree from the University of Virginia in 1999. He studied and played football as a quarterback at Duke and Yale universities. His brother, F. King Alexander, is president and chancellor of Louisiana State University.
