University of Wyoming Art Museum Director Susan Moldenhauer was one of the artists who received the 2016 Wyoming Arts Council Visual Arts Fellowships.
Fellowships honor serious aesthetic exploration by visual artists living and working in Wyoming. The other recipients were Georgia Rowswell and Jennifer Rife, both of Cheyenne.
Additionally, two UW Department of Art faculty members, Associate Professors Doug Russell and Margaret Haydon, along with Wendy Bredehoft, recently retired UW Art Museum education curator, were named honorable mention.
Moldenhauer is an accomplished photographer currently experimenting with panoramic photographs taken from moving vehicles.
Work by these 2016 fellowship recipients, along with those to be selected for the 2017 fellowships, will be included in a Biennial Fellowship Exhibition in 2017. The exhibition for the 2014-15 fellowship winners will be held at the UW Art Museum May 15-Aug. 1.
The jurors for the 2016 Visual Arts Fellowships were Pedro Vélez, an independent artist and art critic now living in New York City; and Bonnie Laing-Malcolmson, the Arlene and Harold Schnitzer Curator of Northwest Art at the Portland Art Museum in Portland, Ore.
The jurors said they appreciated the diversity and quality of the artwork they reviewed. They emphasized that all of the artists were worthy of consideration.
