UW Online Graduate Programs in Education Rank Highly

June 9, 2015

Two University of Wyoming educational administration programs are second on a national “Online Doctorate in Education” ranking generated by GoGrad.org.

Both of UW’s adult and postsecondary specializations, the doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) and doctor of education (Ed.D.), qualified for the GoGrad.org recognition. The programs are housed within the UW College of Education’s Department of Professional Studies.

The ranking may be found at www.gograd.org/online-phd-programs/education/.

GoGrad highlights degrees and services that exceed academic standards of excellence -- and give students the flexibility to continue their higher education through graduate school while working and building experience in their chosen fields, says Wes Ricketts, the website’s founder.

UW College of Education administrators acknowledge the recognition and the ongoing success of the two programs and their graduates.

“The recent GoGrad ranking, in the top five nationally of two of the University of Wyoming’s College of Education online graduate degree programs, provides tangible evidence attesting to the high quality of the college’s online programs and its faculty,” incoming Dean Ray Reutzel says. “We are proud of this achievement, which only spurs us on to increase the reach and quality of the college’s online programming to serve its constituents in the state of Wyoming and throughout the nation.”

General criteria for the GoGrad rankings included:

-- Must offer an online degree in related subject area.

-- Public or private, not-for-profit institution.

-- Number of online graduate degrees available in related subject area.

-- Graduate tuition.

-- Availability of academic and career counseling services.

-- Availability of job placement service.

-- Cost versus comparable programs.

“Our Ph.D. and Ed.D graduates serve in advanced leadership positions such as directors, deans and senior administrators at community colleges and universities, as well as university faculty and researchers,” says Mary Alice Bruce, UW Department of Professional Studies chair. “Ranked by GoGrad, the recognized guide to online graduate programs, our superb students and outstanding faculty in the UW College of Education engage in highly interactive courses, collaborative research and thoughtful discussions with the flexibility and convenience of online connections.”
