New recycling collection bins and cabinets are being distributed on the University of Wyoming campus this summer.
“Some locations will be new, but most will be replacing older bins in existing locations,” says Jim Goodman, UW recycling supervisor. “Some existing bins will remain, as current funding only allows for partial replacement at this time.”
Three streams of waste will be collected in the new bins: mixed paper, bottles and cans, and landfill.
“We ask that you continue to collect paper, bottles and cans for recycle, and, if at all possible, to transport those items to one of the central locations where the recycling crew will service the cabinets once a week,” Goodman says.
“The plan is to have fewer but larger collection spots to be more cost effective and efficient with our collections,” says Tod Scott, Custodial Services supervisor. “We also encourage you to help us facilitate our collections by taking cardboard to one of the many large green cardboard collection bins outside many UW buildings.”
Several new containers have been placed, and rollout of the new containers begins in earnest Monday, July 6, when UW movers will deliver new containers to selected locations and pick up the old ones. Building contacts will be notified of specific bin locations so they can notify building occupants.
The program follows a process that started last year to improve operations and present a more professional appearance. Locations were inventoried and evaluated, new bins were compared and selected, and a schedule was developed for rollout, Scott says.
