Improved health care services will be in place at the Tri-County Medical Center in Pine Bluffs beginning in mid-July.
Until recently, members of the faculty and staff at the University of Wyoming Family Medicine Residency in Cheyenne were the sole providers of services at the Tri-County Medical Center. To provide more comprehensive care, three health care providers -- Cheyenne Regional Medical Center, which owns the building in which the center resides; HealthWorks Community Health Center; and the UW College of Health Sciences that oversees the Family Medicine Residency in Cheyenne -- have developed a plan to work together to provide additional medical services, says Dr. Kevin Murray, UW director of medical education.
The plan was supported by a group of about 20 residents who attended a June 17 meeting in Pine Bluffs to discuss health care opportunities. The meeting was held in response to questions and concerns expressed by members of the community the center serves.
A family medicine physician from HealthWorks will be on site one day each week and provide office hours until 6 p.m. As the patient volume at the clinic increases, a HealthWorks physician will provide additional on-site days each week.
“We anticipate increasing our commitment to three full days each week, within two months from the start date of the plan,” says Elizabeth Hoy, HealthWorks CEO. “The additional services will greatly benefit the community being served by the center, by providing more comprehensive care and a greater selection of providers.”
The provider initially slated for the on-site hours is completing her residency in Cheyenne, where she’s held the title of chief resident.
“She is widely respected by both her peers and patients, and will make an excellent addition to the Tri-County Medical Center care team,” says Cheyenne Regional Medical Center CEO Margo Karsten.
With these changes, the UW Family Medicine Residency will continue to provide its existing level of staffing for patient care.
“Leaders from all three organizations have expressed their willingness to collaborate, with the intention of expanding service hours and availability, while bringing a greater number of providers to the community served by the center,” says Dr. Ron Malm, program director of the Family Medicine Residency in Cheyenne.
