University of Wyoming Calendar for Aug. 31

These are among the activities scheduled Aug. 31-Sept. 6 at the University of Wyoming:

Monday, Aug. 31 -- Fall semester classes begin.

Monday, Aug. 31, 9 a.m. -- Sign-up begins for fall UW Outdoor Program trips, clinics and special programs, northeast corner of Half Acre Recreation and Wellness Center.

Tuesday, Sept. 1, noon-2 p.m. -- The American Indian Studies Program hosts the Summer Winds Concert featuring Gary Farmer and the Troublemakers with Marc Brown and Keith Secola, West Fraternity Mall. Free.

Wednesday, Sept. 2, 11 a.m.-1 p.m. -- RSO Club and Organization Day, Prexy’s Pasture. Free.

Wednesday, Sept. 2, 4 p.m. -- University of Wyoming Police Department’s annual found property auction, 1426 E. Flint St. Viewing of items will start at 3 p.m.

Wednesday, Sept. 2, 5-7 p.m. -- UW President Dick McGinity hosts the President's Welcome Barbecue for students, Prexy’s Pasture. Free.

Thursday, Sept. 3, 7:30 p.m. -- Musical quartet Lights Along the Shore concert, Buchanan Center for the Performing Arts concert hall. Free.

Friday, Sept. 4, noon -- School of Energy Resources Speaker Series presents John Louie from the Nevada Seismological Laboratory at the University of Nevada-Reno. He will discuss “Advanced seismic imaging of geothermal reservoirs -- is there a geothermal seismic signature?” in the Energy Innovation Center’s Encana Auditorium. Lunch provided. Free.

Friday, Sept. 4, 3 p.m. -- Cowgirl soccer vs. Morehead State, Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex. Ticket prices vary.

Friday, Sept. 4, 6 p.m. -- Cowboy Kickoff concert and pep rally, featuring country singer Josh Turner, Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex. Advance tickets cost $30 for adults, $20 for UW students with ID and $10 for children under 12 years of age. Adult and student tickets purchased at the gate will be $10 higher. Purchase tickets online at www.uwyo.edu/finearts or call (307) 766-6666.

Friday, Sept. 4, 6:30 p.m., 9 p.m., 11:30 p.m. -- Friday Night Fever presents “Jurassic World” in the Wyoming Union Family Room. Free to UW students with ID.

Friday, Sept. 4, 7 p.m. -- Planetarium show, “This Month’s Sky: September.” A Pink Floyd laser light show follows at 8:10 p.m. Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for nonstudents, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in Room 204 of the Physical Sciences Building.

Saturday, Sept. 5, 2 p.m. -- The Cowboys open the football season against the University of North Dakota at War Memorial Stadium. Ticket prices vary.

Saturday, Sept. 5, 11 a.m. -- Planetarium show, “Constellations for Kids.” Tickets cost $3 for students and $4 for nonstudents, Physical Sciences Building basement. Advance tickets are available in Room 204 of the Physical Sciences Building.

Sunday, Sept. 6, 1 p.m. -- Cowgirl soccer vs. Drake, Louis S. Madrid Sports Complex. Ticket prices vary.

A variety of exhibitions can be seen at the UW Art Museum in the Centennial Complex, 2111 Willett Drive in Laramie. The museum is open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Free.

Dinosaur skeletons, ancient mammal fossils and other exhibits are on display in the UW Geological Museum, open Mondays through Saturdays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Free.

The UW Department of Botany’s Williams Conservatory is open to the public Mondays through Fridays from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Free.
