The University of Wyoming Vertical Dance Troupe and Lights Along the Shore, a Laramie-based instrumental quartet, will perform as part of the opening activities for the Cheyenne Arts Festival Friday, Aug. 14.

Performances will take place at 6:20 p.m. and 8:20 p.m. outside the Asher Building at 15th Street and Thomes Avenue. The performances are free and open to the public.

“The vertical dancers will actually dance on the building, using ropes and harnesses,” says Bill Lindstrom, executive director of Arts Cheyenne, an organization helping to coordinate the festival. “We are excited to have them join the festival this year.”

Lights Along the Shore will accompany the dancers with its original compositions and arrangements as well as traditional folk music from many cultures. Quartet members are all from the UW Department of Music: Rodney Garnett, professor emeritus, flute; Lisa Rickard, staff accompanist, piano; Blake McGee, assistant professor, clarinet; and Steve Barnhart, professor, percussion. The group recently recorded a new CD, “Misty Morn in May.”

Working with Arts Cheyenne, Lights Along the Shore received funding from the Wyoming Cultural Trust Fund in June to support the performances at the arts festival and one in Thermopolis in 2016.
